Winning the role is rarely the goal of my audition. Setting my sights on the outcome takes me out of the moment and into areas over which I have no control. Casting is a subjective process; too tall, too short, too big, too little, too old, too young, or perhaps I look a bit too much like the director’s ex-husband. The reasons casting directors, producers, and directors may not see me as the best fit for the character are infinite. Beyond making sure that I deliver the best possible audition, I have virtually no control over the outcome.
In the audition, my job is not to win the role. My job is to deliver my very best work and leave the outcome alone. In the audition, solid preparation and a believable portrayal are all that matters.
Get a real agent, get in the “real” casting mix, stay in the moment…the bookings will come.
