Some actors and others talk about the importance of making choices in the audition that will make them “stand out”. This can be a dangerous approach. Conjuring character choices principally for the sake of differentiating one’s work from that of others can lead us away from truth and toward the kind of dishonest, self-serving, and amateurish auditions that are easily spotted by casting professionals.
We may be reading for the same character as dozens of others, yet the difference between us is like the difference between sun and moon, water and sand. Trust your uniqueness.
