The goal of every television series is to deliver the same brand satisfaction to a specific audience (demographic) each episode, over (hopefully) several seasons. The television series and shampoo actually have much in common. Perhaps you buy your favorite shampoo because of the way it smells and what it does to your hair. You keep purchasing that brand because the “formula” is consistent, delivering the same brand satisfaction bottle after bottle, week after week. Series producers develop very specific “formulas” meant to consistently satisfy their intended audience as well. Essential elements of this formula are the words and characters chosen for each episode. Changing those words and/or putting too much of your own spin on a character in the audition, disrespects and endangers the formula and will probably not win you the role. When auditioning; trust the formula, trust the writing, trust the character…just say the words.
